OPTIVIEW TO PROVIDE WEB ACCELERATION SERVICES TO INTER.NET
Global ISP Will Conduct NetCelerate Product Trial
DULLES, VA, November 14, 2001OptiView Technologies (www.optiview.com), a leading provider of Web content optimization services, today announced that Inter.net will conduct a product trial for OptiView's NetCelerate offering. Inter.net, a global Internet Service Provider (ISP) conducting business in 16 countries, has signed on to deploy NetCelerate, which will reduce image bulk and accelerate Web page downloads for its customer base of approximately 500,000 users. NetCelerate, the latest offering of OptiView's proprietary image optimization technology, acts as a proxy on a network, transparently optimizing images, caching them, and reducing download times across an entire user base.
"The ability to significantly reduce bandwidth charges on an ongoing basis is a major benefit to us," said Gaige B. Paulsen, CTO of Inter.net. "We've been offered other products claiming to reduce bandwidth utilization, but NetCelerate is the most promising one we've seen. NetCelerate is particularly appealing because it can reduce page download times by an average of 30%, which fits with our efforts to improve the user experience for our Internet subscribers worldwide."
Because NetCelerate optimizes images for all sites browsed and speeds download times across the board, OptiView is targeting ISPs and enterprise customerswho would see immediate benefits in both improved user experience and decreased bandwidth charges. In addition, NetCelerate instantly optimizes and resizes images for devices with smaller screens, such as wireless PDAs and digital phones.
"OptiView is enthusiastic about the enhanced cost savings and end-user experience it can bring to a major player such as Inter.net," said Donna Hemmert, CEO of OptiView. "Using NetCelerate, their customers will feel as though they are accessing the Internet significantly faster than other users. That's a big win for an ISP with a lot of dial-up customers." According to eMarketer, the 56k modem remains the prevailing connection among Internet users in the U.S., with over 86% dialing in using 56kbps or lower.
